Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik suggested that national level entrance exams such as JEE Main and NEET must be conducted only after the state’s class 12 exams are completed. CM Patnaik said this during a video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said, “National levels entrance examinations like NEET, JEE, CLAT and similar other examinations should be conducted only after state-level class 12 examinations are completed.” The exams have been postponed due to the outbreak of coronavirus in the state. The government has also cancelled many state UG/ PG college entrance exams. The schools and colleges have also been shut till June 30 in the state.
The NEET exam 2020 is to be conducted by NTA now on July 26, 2020. The exam authorities would be releasing the admit cards 15 days prior to the exam dates so the candidates can expect them by July 11. The JEE Main exam would be conducted from July 18, 2020, to July 23, 2020. The exams would be conducted in two shifts. CM Patnaik is concerned that the students from Odisha would not get ample time for preparation as the board exams would also be scheduled around this time. Moreover, the student, if does not pass the Board exams and passes the entrance exam, would waste his/ her seat.
In an addition to this, he asked the Central Government to take affirmative steps to bring back people who are stranded in Gulf Countries and also requested the centre to continue restrictions on train and air travel to the state.
